Peter Pulver Obituary

Pulver, Peter J. "Pete" 72, was born May 15, 1937 in Detroit, MI to Henry and Antoinette (nee Roberts) Pulver, and passed away Sunday, January 31, 2010 following a courageous 5 year battle with cancer. A 38 year resident of Crystal Lake, Pete served on active duty in the US Navy aboard the Destroyer USS Hickox from December 1954 to January 1957 and then the Navy Reserve until December 1962. He was also a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary where he served as a Flotilla Commander and then as a Division Captain over a 22 year career which included 20 years as an instructor teaching boating safety classes and seamanship to the public. Additionally, he was extremely active in search and rescue on Lake Michigan. His hobbies included boating on Lake Michigan from 1975 to 2000 and then touring the country in an RV until his recent illness. His real enjoyment was being with his family and grandchildren. He was also a faithful member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in McHenry. Pete is survived by his loving wife Virginia "Ginny" (nee Howard) whom he married on August 20, 1960, son Patrick (Dawn) of Schaumburg and two daughters Vicki Pulver of Lake in the Hills and Nanci (Tony) Thompson of Pingree Grove, IL, four grandchildren Zachary, Hannah, Brianna and Carli, and two step-grandchildren Jennifer and Mike. Ginny, i was very saddened to hear about Pete. My husband Rick and I moved to your neighborhood about 6 years ago. He was the first neighbor that said Hi to us when we moved in. My husband enjoyed talking to Pete about the time they served in the military. I got to talk to him as I went by your house. My impression of Pete was such a nice person!! I enjoyed talking to him. We will miss him. God bless you and your family.

Aunt Ginny we send our deepest sympathies to you and the family. I cherish the memories I have of our visits together at your house and during your visits to California. Especially the ones of Uncle Pete on the Water slides when I was young. Please accept our condolences.

I was very saddened to hear of Pete's passing. I was a Lyle Howard customer of Pete's for many years and I still to this day have never met a better vendor or a better man. He truly cared about people and it showed in his smile. I regret not spending more time with him as I'm sure he enriched everyone's lives that he touch. I still use stories about Pete as examples to my employees on how to go that extra mile and care for our customers. I always felt like more than a customer with Pete. I truly felt like a friend. Men like Pete are far too few these days. He will be missed

Ginny,

Myrna and I were so sorry to hear of Pete's passing. When we met you many years ago at the harbor it was apparent that both you and Pete were wonderful people. We'l always remember Pete's happy smile and willingness to help with any matter related to boating.

There are some patients that you will never, ever forget - and Pete was one of those patients for me. I met him when I first started at Good Shepherd and he first got his diagnosis. Even during some rough times, he would have a smile for me. That is what happens whenever I think of him - I smile. Ginny, you are in my thoughts & prayers.
