Memories and Condolences
for Peter Cunningham

Not sure what to say?

March 1, 2011

I can not believe that we have lost two wonderful men on our block, Tony and Pete. I am still trying to come to grips with it. All I know I can do is pray for all of you. If it helps to know that you are in our thoughts, or if it helps to know that prayers are being said, please know that they are being done.

The first thing you noticed was the smile. Warm, welcoming, mischevious and sincere all at the same time. I didn't know many people when I moved to Chicago. Pete was fantastic, one of the first and one of the best people I met. He always made me feel like an old friend, rather than just someone elses cousin. I can't express how sincere my sympathies are to Shelly, the girls, the Cunninghams, and all Pete's family and friends. He was truly one of the good ones, and I am very saddened by his passing. I miss you Pete.

February 28, 2011

Shelly, Abbey, Mimi and Ava, We should all live life as Pete did. He was so full of LOVE and that will live on in all of us forever. He was so proud of all of you.
We love you and are here for you.

Shelly, Abby, Mimi & Ava:

Words cannot express my sympathy for your loss. Pete was a great guy, a fantastic neighbor and a loyal friend. He will be missed by all that were lucky enough to have known him.

You were the light of his life and he loved you all so much. Although his time here was much too short, his life was happy and meaningful because of his beautiful family!! He knew this and you can take some comfort in knowing how happy you made him.

I will never forget the great times we had at the old house, the Halloween Spooks, the cookie swaps, the block parties, you watching the Sopranos on Sunday nights and me interupting bringing over some sort of treat!!

I will be here for you if you want to talk, any time, day or night. I understand what you are going through. It is a rough road you have ahead of you and you don't have to go through this alone.

It has been 4 yrs since Tony passed away. He would have turned 40 this May. I am certain that he and Pete have reconnected and are enjoying a beer and some sort of sporting event together!!

May God be with you now and always. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Love, Mo

February 23, 2011

My favorite memory of Peter was his awesome smile and hearty laugh. Whenever I would see Pete I would sing "Do you really love me!" Jesus said to Peter. "Lord you know I love you!" Peter said with joy! "Then feed my lambs!" Jesus said. "Peter feed my sheep!" It may have been a courtesy laugh because I cant sing, but it was worth it! Love, Timmy Clancy

Tim Doody

February 21, 2011

Shelly & the girls, Anne & Tom and all the Cunninghams,

Pete was truly one of the good guys. He was honest, unassuming, smart & funny. He was so likeable because used COMMON SENSE in his everyday observations of people and things. ("Sorry - no nachos today. You can have chips - but we're out of cheese......no, that's broke too").

You always knew where you stood with Pete. He would call a spade a spade - or to use his words, he would call a "tool", a "tool". Pete's physical presence will be greatly missed but Pete's spirit will carry on in those of us who were so lucky enough to have had him pass through our lives and so blessed to have been able to call Pete a friend.
