STRICKLAND, Jr., Perry L. Age 85, of Springfield went home to be with the Lord at 5:50 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009 in Mercy St. Johns Center, Springfield. Perry was born on December 23, 1923 in Champaign Co., a son of the late Perry L. and Louella (Gilpin) Strickland. He married Zelma Shroyer on August 24, 1947 and she preceded him in death on August 2, 1985. He married Jean (Wilson) Meadows on March 15, 1986 and she survives in Springfield. Perry is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Carolyn and Darrell Goodson of St. Paris; a step daughter and son-in-law: Sandra and Ronald Divens of Springfield; two grandsons, Tom (Rachel) Goodson of Chesapeake, VA, Bill (Lindsay) Goodson of Hudson, WI; two great grandchildren; Danny and Kacy Goodson; two step grandchildren: James (Trish) Meadows and Chris Bauer, both of Springfield; and two step great grandchildren: Ravyn and Phoenyx Meadows; a sister, Raymajean Hall of Georgia. In addition to his parents and first wife, Perry was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Woodrow Strickland, a sister, Lena Journell, and two half sisters, Betty Hill and Ruth Byran. Perry was a member of the Myrtle Tree Baptist Church. He was a 1942 graduate of Harrison Adams School in Rosewood. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. In 1987 he retired from Everoll Specialties in Lawrenceville, Oh. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, Saint Paris, Ohio with Reverend Clifford Kissinger presiding. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, N. St. Rt. 235, Conover. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Mercy Hospice, 1343 N. Fountain Blvd., Springfield, Ohio 45504. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
