Dear Paula, I will treasure your friendship always. You gave me my nickname when we first met through your door. From Likely, with love.

Paula and I got to share many luncheons and tea parties together in the past few years. Her knowledge of music was an inspiration to all music lovers. I shall miss her humor and sparkling smile. Barbara Prasetyo

Dear Emily and Diana, Tom, Lexie, Aaron (I hope this is right), and all of Tom's brothers:

I met Paula in 1973 in the most unexpected way. Our paths would never, never have crossed if not for a twist of fate. We were extremely close and she was so very good to me. She was my friend, mentor and mother in a good sort of way, as mine had died. She knew my parents and so understood me in that acute and fiercely protective way of hers.

She breathed adamant love for all of you -- I know so much about your lives and how proud she was of each of you. She unwaveringly supported all your decisions and loved what you did and believed in. I wish I knew you in person and I am heartbroken to have this news.

Thank heavens for e-mail address books.

I will see you in December. Love, Mary
