Paul Depondt Obituary

Depondt, Paul December 31, 1926 - April 13, 2007 internationally renown and award winning architect, died peacefully in his Chicago home surrounded by loved ones and his little dog. He had been seriously ill for several years with chronic lung disease and cancer. Paul is survived by his beloved Kathryn "KC" Conway, his three children Philippe, Charles (Nancy) and Beatrice (Karl Van Meter), his grandchildren Max and Claire Depondt, and Tim and Ken Van Meter, his sister Madeleine Lanat, eleven nieces and nephews, his dear friend Odile Voinchet and many more. Mr. Depondt was famous for his innovative use of steel-frame construction in housing and commercial buildings. He studied under Mles van der Rohe at IIT in Chicago and under Walter Gropius at Harvard where he earned his Masters Degree. He was the recipient of the International Reynolds Memorial Award and many other honors during his four decade career. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 28th, 2 p.m., at St. Gertrude's Church, 1420 W. Granville, Chicago, IL.
