Patrick Rand Obituary

Patrick is/was one of the greatest teachers I've ever met. I admire him much more than he even knew. Reminiscing about people I used to work with--and still miss--Patrick always comes to mind. He was truly a blessing in my life. My condolences to his loved ones. As I sit here, tears and all, I also smile...thankful that our paths met. I miss his smile, his passion for teaching and helping others. He made a difference...to me and I'm sure to so many others. Goodbye, gentle soul; and dear friend forevermore.

Mr.Rand was my art teacher for as long as I can remember, all the way to 8th grade! Even after i graduated I love to visit him and help out with his class. He is the reason I love music and performing on stage, he brought the Chicago symphony orchestra to our school and I was so inspired I learned how to play the flute after that. I remember meeting yo-yo ma! It was so cool! I miss him so so much! I´m grateful he was my teacher, mentor and friend. I also remember when it was a students birthday he would sing happy birthday through the talking Tom cat and play it for us. Rest in paradise

I am saddened to learn Patrick passed in 2017. Condolences to Patrick´s family. I worked with Patrick during my time teaching with Chicago Public Schools. Patrick was a dedicated Art teacher. He touched the lives of many students in many positive ways. Rest In Peace my colleague.

Ron, thank you for remembering my sweet brother on the sad anniversary of his loss. He was such an amazing man and had such a kind and generous spirit. I will share your note with my mother Marge . It has been for 2 years now that we all have been feeling the void his death has left. I miss his laughter and contagious joy, love of teaching and of life every day . My world is not the same without him in it.

I am so thankful for my friendship with Patrick. The first thing he said to me was "We are going to be friends" and we were. Patrick gave me my first "tour" of Pickard and now I miss him daily at school. However, the memories we shared here in our work with students has made me a better teacher and person. Patrick, I miss eating lunch at the taco place and I miss listening to the stories of your amazing life. You were so genuine and nice to me even though our worlds were so different. I miss you. I miss you so much, the dog misses you. knowing you, changed my life for the better. I will have to grow impatients every summer in your honor. Every spring you would fill your balcony with impatients and then take off around the world for summer break, leaving me to water all your plants. I kept trying to get you to buy something else because I truly did not like impatients, they have suddenly become my favorite plant.

Even though you were apart of our Blue Devil family for a short time your smile and warm hello will be remembered by our Tilden staff and students. Job well done

Mr. Rand was at Tilden for a very short time. I was stunned to hear of his untimely passing. During the time he was here, we were in the process of forming what I believe would have been a wonderful professional as well as personal friendship. He always had a smile for the children and a kind word for all. He had a good work ethic and was showing that he could form relationships with students.
What opened up my heart was what appeared to be his love for the students in my low incident program. A program for students with moderate to severe disabilities. He was looking toward having his students work with my students periodically to give them more art exposure because as I told him, I am artistically brain dead. He had already mad the cutest penguins with my students.
I will miss Mr. Rand and I am praying for you his close family and friends

Mr. Rand was only working with us at Tilden for a short while. In his short time with us, I could sense his deep talent as an art teacher and educator. We were lucky to have known him. I had the pleasure of getting to know Patrick during his brief time at LV this past school year. He always had a greeting and smile ready whenever I saw him around the building. He had a way of changing my attitude with a kind outlook on life. He was truly a bright light and I'm sad that he's gone. I'm grateful I had an opportunity to cross paths with him. To Patrick's family- I have known and loved Patrick since 1998 when I was a teacher with him. Since then he has been one of my most special friends. I will miss him every day. The obituary is a beautiful tribute to him. Having him in my life was such a gift. My love to you all.

Dear Marge and girls
I am so taken back and I hardly know what to say having. Just read of Patrick's passing in the Richmond news paper
It seems as though it were just yesterday that this nice little boy was sitting next to me on your couch when I was visiting you.
When Patrick was still living in Richmond and attending VCU, we would run into one another, and after he went to Chicago we kept in touch via email. It made me feel so good to hear of his joy and contributions to children's education. Of course, he kept me in the news about all of you. I will always remember his ever-present smile. My thoughts and prayers go to you as I wrap my arms around all of you, my dear friends.

Dear Rand family, you have my deepest sympathy. Please remember that God cares for you and He will help you through this difficult time. You all are in my prayers.

There are no words to express the pain of seeing you part. I know that God gave you a mission to fulfill in this world, He saw you went above and beyond His expectations, and decided it was time to hold you tightly in His embrace.
