My deepest sympathy and condolences Bruce on your mother's passing. I first met Opal when Bruce was a student in my eighth grade math class. Who would believe that Bruce & I would become faculty-mates years later.

My condolences on Opal's passing. I have known her for 42 years, as a next-door neighbor for 20 of those years. One of my most vivid memories is the day JFK was shot. I was baking cookies in my kitchen when I heard the announcement. I ran to Opal's house, crying and yelling, "The President's been shot.". She queried calmly, "Which President?" Then we watched the sad proceedings together on TV.

Another favorite memory was when Opal and I decided to get evening and weekend jobs at Sears in Oakbrook to bring in more money for our families. It worked out fine when we had the same schedule; but soon our schedules changed and, since she didn't drive at night, Bud needed to drive her to and from work. It was when gas prices were high and soon Bud and Opal decided it was cheaper for her not to work.

There are lots of other memories but these two are the most lasting.

Please accept my sympathy.
