Nora Mitsumori Obituary

Mitsumori, Nora Misao
Private funeral services for the late Mrs. Nora Misao Mitsumori were held on Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena, California under the direction of Fukui Mortuary. The Reverend David Manock presided at the services. Mrs. Mitsumori, 83 year-old Honolulu, Hawaii born resident of Pasadena, passed away on September 24, 2004 at the Scripps Home in Altadena. She is survived by her husband James; daughters, Ann Tane (Mark) La Salle and Jan Ryo Figgins; grandchildren, Taylor, Marah, Ariel and Maren La Salle and Malea and Arie Figgins; sister, Doris Okimoto of Honolulu and by many nieces, nephews and relatives in both California and Hawaii. Nora was a graduate of the University of Nebraska, and after graduation returned to Hawaii as a school teacher. She returned to California after WWII to marry James, and made her home and raised her children in Pasadena. After raising her children, Nora turned her energy and talents to volunteer service for many senior citizens and older women's programs in Pasadena. She was a volunteer board of director for various Pasadena based charitable organizations, and a National Board Member of the Older Women's League. Nora was also appointed by and served for the City of Pasadena's Commission on the Status of Women and the Senior Citizens Commission. In March of 2003, Nora was honored by the Los Angeles County Commission for Women as one of the Women of the Year. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers and monetary gifts, donations be made either to the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 East Holly Street, Pasadena, CA, 91103, or to Keiro Senior Health Care, 325 South Boyle Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90033, in memory of Nora Misao Mitsumori.

My grandmother, was iconic.
My grandmother had it all.
...There was never a point in time,
when my grandmother, didn´t have it.
She was the female prototype.
My grandmother, was picture perfect.
My grandmother, was the definition of classic.
My grandparents´, were the like Kennedys´.
My grandmother and grandfather, were like Jackie and John F. Kennedy.
My grandparents´, had the perfect life.
My grandparents´, were "The Best."
My grandparents´, were "The End Goal."
My grandparents´, were the first to ever show me, what it meant to live,
"The American Dream;" and not on purpose. They were just being grandma and grandpa. It took me to reach about eighteen years of age, to come to understand; the reality, to fully grasp, see full circle, how made they had everything. They had everything made. They had it made.
They were famous in Pasadena.
...When you´re a child, in elementary, and grandma and grandpa are taking you out to dinner, it was like a celebrity was in town; after we sat down.
After about five times of my grandfather smiling at everyone, saying hello, shaking hands, we (my sibilings´) we´re always asking my grandparents´,"What´s going on?" "How do all of these people know you!"
"Friends," is what my grandmother would say. Everyone was a friend. It doesn´t get any better than them two.
My grandmother, made life; seem effortless.
My grandmother, made life; seem easy..simple..fun.
I have never witnessed my grandmother sweat in life about anything. I never witnessed my grandmother mad, angry, or negative. I have never witnessed either of my grandparents ever raise their voice.
My grandmother and grandfather, were; the "calmest," "smoothest," "slick," "clean,"
"sharp," "proper," respectful and most
well-respected humans in the Pasadena, community, I have ever witnessed.
For all you knew as an elementary kid is that your grandparents are "popular," or you noticed when you go outside
"everyone likes them," a lot of people come up to them to say hello, shake hands, show gratitude, "they have a lot of friends," so you just knew, "my grandparents´ are cool."
At the time, you have no idea who you´re grandparents are, all you know is that everyone seems to loves them and show it publicly. I think my grandmother, and my grandfather were famous Hollywood movie stars in another life. And everytime we went out to dinner, or breakfast, it was Showtime.
You would think they owned the city. I´ll put it that way. They were, "America´s´ Sweethearts." The real deal. My grandmother was the real deal. She was everything. I miss her so much. I still cry to this day. She will always be remembered as the great; a great one.

I met Nora 25 years ago. She was the first person to welcome me in the neighborhood. Nora was a good neighbor and a supportive friend.--she was like one of the family. Nora reached out to me and my daughters in a special way. I will always remember her with affection.
