To the family of Nicholas Shizas:
Please accept my condolonces on the loss of your father. I don't know if anyone might remember me, but I was one of the first stock boys employed by your father at his store on 57th & Ashland. I had the opportunity to meet your mother Joan and was still in contact with Nick when the first two children were born. I started working for your dad when I was about 12 or 13 years old and kept on while going to high school. This was strange as most of the guys that worked for you dad, always quit and went to work for Bill the butcher next door. After leaving the store I moved on and went into the US Army and later became a Chicago
Police Officer. While driving down 35th St. one day I saw your father standing outside of the store. I stopped and had to reintroduce myself, as it had been about 17 or 18 years since we had seen each other. We spoke about the old days and the fun we had, but as usual time passes on. I am now retired from the CPD after 30 years and now live in Indiana. Im sorry I cannot attend the wake and funeral, but I will always remember him. I'm also sorry to read about the loss of your mother, who I fondly remember. I will remember both of them in my prayers. God Bless.

Dear Susan, Nick, Billy, and Barbara:
We are very sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. We wish we could be in Chicago to celebrate his life, but unfortunately we can't. The memories keep flooding back of all the great times we had as an extended family, from picnics, to Christmas parties, to me and my dad seeing your dad at his store. Those were the best of times. Between your dad, my dad, uncle Spero, uncle John, aunt Julie and aunt Helen there were endless hours of stories about all them growing up on 35th St. I am sure there is enough material for all of us tell our children and our children's children for years to come. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Pete, Denise and Raina

I AM DONNA MC CAULEY, I THINK I'M A THIRD COUSIN TO YOUR MOM. MY GRAMMA MARGIE AND YOUR GRAMMA WERE EITHER SISTERS OR FIRST COUSINS, I FORGET. MY MOM IS JUDY PRIKOPA BURKHART. WE HAVEN'T SEEN YOUR FAMILY IN A VERY LONG TIME. I CAME ACROSS THE NOTICE TODAY AND WAS QUITE SHOCKED SINCE WE JUST FOUND OUT AT CHRISTMAS THAT YOUR MOM HAD PASSED MONTHS BEFORE. MY GREAT AUNT VIOLET SENT A CHRISTMAS CARD TO YOUR DAD AND YOUR DAD CALLED HER TO LET HER KNOW. SHE THEN CALLED MY MOM SO SHE WOULDN'T ADDRESS HER CARD WRONG ALSO. THOUGH I DIDN'T SEE YOUR FAMILY ALOT I KNOW FROM WHAT MY MOM'S TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE A REAL SPECIAL COUPLE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR DAD DIED FROM BUT IT WAS PROBABLY ASSOCIATED WITH A BROKEN HEART. WE WANTED TO SEND OUR SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF YOUR DAD AND YOUR MOM ALSO. I THINK THIS IS GREAT OF THE PAPER TO HAVE THIS AVAILABLE. I HOPE THAT THE MEMORIES YOU ALL HAVE WILL HELP TO HEAL YOUR PAIN. I'M STILL LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE BOTH MY PARENTS ALIVE BUT I DID LOOSE MY BROTHER WHEN HE WAS 16 IN 1966 AND KNOW THE PAIN IS BAD. AGAIN, THOUGH WE DIDN'T KEEP IN TOUCH, WE STILL ARE DEEPLY SADDENED BY BOTH THEIR PASSING. DONNA
