Moses Mizrahi Obituary

Mizrahi, Moses much beloved husband of the late Belina (nee Donio), father of Hazzan Alberto Mizrahi and grandfather of Belina Esther Mizrahi, died Tuesday morning, July 23, 2002. He was 90 years old. Born on the Island of Chios, Greece in 1911, his family moved to Athens in the 1920's. He was taken to Auschwitz in 1944 and forced to work as a "sonderkommando". Having miraculously survived that experience, he and his wife, Belina, left a poor but comfortable existence in Greece to provide opportunity in the United States for their only child, Alberto. Moses worked in the garment industry most of his life and since his wife's untimely death in 1974, had retired to live independently near his son and daughter-in-law, Deborah, in four different parts of the country. He was a great fan of soccer, baseball and football and was known to attend games in driving storms, "...in case they were played". He was unwavering in his devotion to and love of his family and friends, and never stopped talking about his trip to Israel with his wife; an occasion he considered a miracle after having been through the gates of Nazi hell. Moses Mizrahi was a dignified and humble soul who taught by the example of his life. He leaves behind a pure and good name, and countless people who loved him for his gentle and gentlemanly nature. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, at the Zion Memorial Park in Bedford Heights, OH. Memorial contributions to the Anshe Emet Synagogue, 3760 N. Pine Grove, Chicago, IL 60613 or to the Self Help Home, 908 W. Argyle, Chicago, IL, 60640. For info please call: The Weinstein Family Services Wilmette Chapel, 847-256-5700.
