Michael Smich Obituary

Smich, Michael A. Michael A. Smich, age 58, of Whiting passed away January 20, 2013 after a long hard battle with cancer. He is survived by his children: Michelle Davis of Evansville, IN, Schuyler Smith of Oklahoma City, OK, Tracy (Dan) Opat of Munster, Kim (Juan), Kelly and Bo Kender, all Whiting. He was the proud grandfather of Ashlee, Courtney, Nevaeh, Kaiden Kender, and Alisa Baranowski; sister, Janice Schrager of Round Lake, IL; lifelong friends: Kevin Jenkins, Tom Hogan, and Alan Garritano (they spent their Younger years at the Smich family owned Enchanted Forest Amusement Park in Chesterton, IN.); and numerous brothers and sisters-in-laws. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 24 years, Sandy Smich, who passed away in October 2012; his beloved parents: William and Annie Smich; and his brother, Buddy Smich. Mike was employed by R-K Press Brake Dies of Alsip, IL where he worked until he became ill. He was a skilled tool and die maker. Mike enjoyed the outdoors, working on cars, and being with people. Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a blessing in the life of everyone who knew him. Mike was extremely generous and would help anyone. He will be deeply missed. A private memorial service will be held for the family. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Memory of Michael Smich.
