Mike, was a great guy and always had a warm smile when you went through the gate. He will be missed.

To Mike's Family: The employees at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant always received a warm welcome from Mike each morning when we came to work. At only 6:30 or 7:00am, we could always count on his big smile and a kind comment to greet us as we drove through the gate. Each & every car received and looked forward to this personal welcome! Mike is truly missed and we will always remember him. Our hearts ache for your loss.

Michael was unanimously voted to speak on behalf of our graduating Police class #2467 on 9/11/2008 by us fellow officers; because of his incredible character and warm heart. The instructors said it was by far the best speech they had ever heard at a police academy graduation at P.T.I. in Champaign. He had the audience laughting, crying and cheering in the end! Michael will always be in our hearts, with us hearing his laughter and constant smile on his face!

I still can remember Michael clear as day from elementary school. I also went to Jamieson with Michael and I also remember him being a confident popular guy. Always a leader. My condolences go out to his family and close friends. I will keep them in my prayers.

To The Schaefer Family -

I went to school with Mike at John Carroll but really became close to him during his time in Lakewood, OH. We had many great times together. I still smile thinking of his bellowing laugh, which he frequently displayed. Towards the end of his time in Lakewood he often talked of how he missed his family in Chicago, eventually leading him home....where I know he was happy.

Words can't express how sorry I am for your loss. I never met anyone that didn't like Mike. He was truly special. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My heart goes out to the Schaefer's family. I know how hard it could be to lose someone so young and full of life. I hope that these sciptures taken from Revelation will be a source of encouragment to everyone. "God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away and the One seated on the throne said "Look! I am making all things new." Also he said Write because these words are faithful and true.

Dear God, You welcomed home an Angel today. While heaven will rejoice, that Angel left our world too soon. We feel him looking down at us with that great big smile and can hear his laughter. He will forever live on in our memories and in our heart. I pray for the entire Schaefer family and all those hurting from this tragic loss. Please watch over, and help them find courage and strength during this difficult time. Amen.
