Dear LaVelle Family,
I did not know Mr LaVelle myself, but my father, Mike Veltri, did. And often spoke very highly of him. From listening to CTA stories from my Dad, I know they had a grand time working together. My family sends heartfelt condolences to you all. We understand what you are going thru, we lost my Dad on June 13 '02 from complications following by-pass surgery.

My sincere condolences to the LaVelle family;
I have known Mike since 1977. He was always willing to share the benefit of his knowledge and experience to those who expressed an interest in the business. Looking back now, he was one of my most influencial Transportation Department role models. I wish only I had thought to tell him that...

Mike was my 'boss' at CTA well over 30 years ago when I was Graduate Trainee. He not only did a superb job guiding me (and keeping me in line...), he provided excellent insight into how to successfully carry passengers -- to provide a product so that "the public be pleased." It was my pleasure some 15+ years later to hire Mike as a consultant to New York City Transit so that he could show the largest system in the country just how to get things done with the passenger, and safety, first and foremost in mind. He will be sorely missed. Sincerest condolences to his family.

My sincere condolences to Mike's family.
Mike was my first contact at CTA when I was interviewing for a job out of school back in 1978. His 'to-the-point' approach of how things were at the CTA impressed me and I was convinced that that was the place to go to work if one wanted to be in public transportation - and I did.
I got to work with Mike over the just under five years that I was there and I'm grateful for all that he was willing to share about the business.
Sincerely,
Thomas Kerkes
