I knew, and was close to, Michael at Sullivan High School where we met and became friends, and at the University of Chicago. I am a survivor of the Holocaust...one of the Hidden Children of France and Michael understood...and cared. i am devastated to hear of his passing....and will miss his being in my life, if only at a distance.

I am sorry to her about Michael's passing. I lived next door to Michael in 40's and 50's when the family lived on Washtenaw Avenue in West Rogers Park. My mother, Rebecca Newman was very friendly with Mrs. Betty Kotzin and active at Ner Tamid Congregation. Michael was a fine gentleman and a true leader and a great addition to the JUF.
