I am writing my personal statement as part of the application for Harvard's Graduate School of Education and I write about Mr. I, as the teacher who challenged me to write a paper for his class in the fall of 1986 when I had only been in the US for a few months and didn't speak English. He accepted as many revisions as it took to get the paper in a state that was acceptable and fair to grade. 17 years later, I became a high school math teacher and Mr. I's science class on the southwest side of the second floor of Nichols MS was one of the reasons I went into teaching. I'm sad that I am just finding out about his death. I was an incredible teacher whose passion for science and teaching was evident at every turn. As I work to finish my statement, I will be sure to describe and convey all that he meant to me; all that it meant to have a teacher refuse to give up on me and avail himself to provide or seek out whatever support I needed. RIP Mr. I-your mission has been complete. You will live forever through us!

Wow. So sorry to get this news. I was sharing stories of my favorite science teacher with my kids and telling them stories about the boa "Mr. I " had. I also remember the Jeep he had. He oozed cool. I grew up and got the Jeep but could never swing the beard and ponytail. Many fond memories. Wishing your family all the best Mr. I . Thanks for the hall passes.

RIP Mr. Izbicky! You will always be fondly remembered and appreciated by many of your former students - especially those in the '70s from Skiles Middle School.

Best teacher at Nichols. Always knew he was there, his Jeep (Snoplow) was usually parked out front. He will be missed, rest in peace Mr. I...you were truly one of the good guys.

Mr. Izbicky was an amazing teacher. I still remember meeting him on a tour of Nichols Middle School in 1979 and how welcoming he was to me. I was very fortunate to go on to have him as my science teacher.

Izzy and I were neighbors on Kedvale in Lincolnwood, back in the day. We had a lot in common: lost our dads at a young age, had curly hair, were the shortest in our class, and both became middle school science teachers in District 65. Izzy was s student teacher of mine in the early 70's. Mike lived life by the drop. I valued his presence in this world and I'm deeply saddened by his untimely passing. It's been years since we've talked and I would have liked a future with Izzy in it.

Mr. Izbicky was one of my favorite teachers at Skiles (and everywhere else). It had little to do with formal class, but more to do with life. He was exactly what a young teen-age person needed at that time in life. He was a "teacher" in the truest sense of the word. May you find comfort in your memories of this kind and gentle soul.

My heart felt condolences to Mr. I's family. I adored him as my teacher in the mid 80's. He helped me get through a family tragedy and was, for me, the most relatable teacher at Nichols at the time.

Mr. I made science, school & life fun. He was my teacher at Nichols in the early 90s. Mr. I showed how much he loved his students everyday. I only pray that he knew how much his students loved him.
