Matthew Schmitz Obituary

Schmitz, Mathew Francis 91, of Schaumburg, IL passed away Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. Mathew was born in Chicago, IL to Nicholas and Anna Schmitz. He was married to Margaret Schmitz on June 22, 1946. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. He was a World War II war veteran and a lifetime member of the Schaumburg VFW. He was also a 65 year member of the Pipefitters Union local 597, Chicago. He spent many years volunteering at his local church, St. Tarcissus, and served as Scoutmaster of Troop 969. After his retirement at 65, he enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, gardening, and attending his grandchildren's activities. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret. Loving father of Mathew (Susan) Schmitz, Margaret (Les) Poole, Mary (Rick) Manis; Cherished grandfather of Jennifer and Nicholas Schmitz, Leslie and Danny Poole, Stephanie and Ryan Manis. Visitation will be at Grove Memorial Chapel 1199 S. Arlington Hts Rd, Elk Grove Village on Tuesday, August 28 from 3 to 9pm. Chapel prayers Wednesday August 29 at 9:45am then proceed to St. Matthew Church in Schaumburg for a 10:30am mass. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove.
