Mary Waldron Obituary

ADRIAN - Sister Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Waldron, formerly known as Sister John Margaret Waldron, died on July 15, 2016, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich. She was 80 years of age and in the 62nd year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister Mary Elizabeth was born in Tampa, Fla., to John and Margaret (Gleason) Waldron. She graduated from Rosarian Academy in West Palm Beach, Fla., and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Mich., and completed additional studies in pastoral education.

Sister spent 26 years ministering in education in Chicago, Ill., and St. Petersburg, Miami, Miami Beach and Fort Pierce, Fla. Sister was a pastoral minister and chaplain for 22 years at St. James Parish in Miami, Bon Secours Villa Maria in North Miami, St. Peter Parish in Naples, St. Raphael Parish in Englewood and St. Mary's Hospital in West Palm Beach, all in Florida. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich., in 2012.

Sister Mary Elizabeth is survived by a cousin, Sister Helen Wilson, an Adrian Dominican Sister, and predeceased by Sister Mary Rita Gleason, also a cousin and Adrian Dominican Sister.

Visitation is from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 18, in the Rose Room at the Dominican Life Center, followed by vigil prayer at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 19. Burial will be in the congregation cemetery.
