Joseph Antal Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Major Joseph J. Antal, 75, passed away at Riverside Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, July 13, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Taylor, Pa., son of the late Joseph and Anna Belensky Antal. He was a graduate of Taylor High School and Thomas Nelson Community College, Hampton, Va. He served with the U.S. Army, as a paratrooper from 1948 to 1952, and with the U.S. Air Force, as a fighter pilot from 1954 to 1970. After retiring from the Air Force, he was employed by Litton Data Systems, Los Angeles, Calif., Computer Sciences Corp and Betac Corp in Hampton. He was a member of the Sewells Point Men's Golf Association, Norfolk, and an active volunteer and member of the Genealogical Research Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank and Robert. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 39 years, Joan Crider Antal, and his brothers and sisters, Jean Drahmann of Los Gatos, Calif., Dr. John Antal and wife, Bernice, of Framingham, Mass., Ann Lavelle and husband, Patrick, of Taylor, Pa., Edward Antal of Towson, Md., and Dr. Paul Antal of Boulder, Colo. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News. Funeral service at St. Ann's Monastery, Scranton, Pa. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, Pa.
