Malcolm Meredith Obituary


Family-Placed Death Notice

Malcolm Johnson Meredith, age 94, died on May 19, 2004 at his home on Lake Lanier after a brief illness. Mr. Meredith was born July 14, 1909 in Hartwell, Georgia to James Robert and Lucy Belle Johnson Meredith, and was preceded in death by; his brother: James, Boyce and Gilbert. He is survived by his wife: Mary Merle May Meredith, whom he married in Atlanta on May 19, 1939 and their sons Robert Malcolm Meredith and his wife, Mary; Gilbert Brinson Meredith, and his wife, Bonnie; and Ronald Johnson Meredith. He is also survived by grandson, Gilbert B. Meredith, Jr., and granddaughter, Jean Morgan Meredith Tjepkema; great-grandsons, Gilbert B. Meredith III and Malcoln Warner Tjepkema; and great-granddaughters, Anna Murphy Meredith; and Meredith May Tjepkema. Mr. Meredith moved from Hartwell to Atlanta at age 16 to begin employment as an order clerk in the newly opened catalog order plant of Sears Roebuck on Ponce de Leon Avenue, where he worked for 47 years, retiring as Personnel Manager for the Southeastern Territory. Mr. and Mrs. Meredith were long-time members of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Atlanta, before moving to Lake Lanier, where they attended Church Of The Apostles in Dawsonville. Malcolm was greatly beloved and highly respected by all his family and by those who knew or work with him. He is remembered for his great intellect, wit, integrity, honor, devotion to family, and firm stand for sound principles. He was a true Christian gentleman. There will be a funeral service at Church Of The Apostles which is located at 34 Grant Road, West, Dawsonville on Friday, May 21 at 10:00 am and a graveside service in the Northview Cemetery in Hartwell at 3:00 pm. Grant Road intersects GA 400 1.7 miles north of the GA Highway 53 and GA 400 intersection. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church Of The Apostles, P.O. Box 1077, Dawsonville, GA 30534. Bearden Funeral Home, Dawsonville, GA 706-265-3159.
