Lona Herndon Obituary

DANVILLE, Va. - Lona Dodd Herndon, 93, formerly of 157 Forest Lawn Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Stratford Health Center. She was the last surviving member of her generation.
Born in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late James Church Dodd and Lenia Green Dodd.
She was a life long member of Canaan Primitive Baptist Church. She had lived most of her life in Danville and retired in 1987 from Brooks-Anderson Insurance Agency as Bookkeeper. She was a former member of the Virginia Piedmont Chapter of ABWA, the Danville Credit Women's Association, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Salvation Army and AARP.
She was married to William Ben Herndon on Dec. 5, 1936. He died Dec. 25, 1954.
She is survived by four nephews, David Dodd of Landis, N.C., Swanson Dodd Jr. of Henderson, N.C., Bill Dodd of Denver, Colo., and Belvin Dodd of Clearwater, Fla.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at Highland Burial Park, with Elder Mark Terry officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, at Barker Funeral Home Chapel, 2025 North Main Street, Danville.
