Linda McDonnell Bare

Linda Bare Obituary

Bare, Linda McDonnell Age 43, born February 22, 1964 in Chicago, IL. Attended Our Lady of Mercy Grammar School, Good Counsel High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from DePaul University. If the Joy of Life was handed out evenly among all gifted souls, Linda went back for more and perhaps upon seeing her beautiful smile, she was blessed with even more, Linda's smile could ignite parties and would make all family and friend gatherings better. She loved to cook and entertain, and spend time and share laughs with family and friends, many times on the deck on warm summer evenings. But the most important thing in Linda's life was her family, who were first and foremost, including her dog, Kam. She loved her children immensely, and treasured every moment with them. Linda was the youngest of six in her family and married her first and only true love, Jim, also the youngest of six. Linda and Jim were soul mates and very much in Love until the day she died. When Linda was first diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2000, she was determined to live her life and not let the cancer win. She battled cancer for seven years and never gave up psychologically to the disease, which although eventually claimed her life, it never took the life from her days. During that time she loved to entertain in her home and enjoyed traveling to many favorite vacation spots, including Florida, California and Ireland. She refused to let cancer get her down. Despite her challenges, she had unshakeable faith. Linda was a great inspiration to all who knew her, She showed great strength and determination in fighting her disease. Survived by: husband, Jim; daughter, Kailyn -13; son, Kevin-11; son, Jack-9. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Margaret and Thomas McDonnell; sister Margaret-Mary Bracey (late Nate); sister Ann Marie_Keenan; sister, Bernadette; brother, Thomas_(JoAnn); sister, Theresa (Rob) Landgren. Lifelong family friend, Kathleen McCahill (Mike Compagno), many nieces and nephews. The Bare Family has requested that in lieu of flowers, for Linda's services, donations can be made to Bare Children's Education Trust c/o Foley & Lardner LLP, Attn: William C. Weinsheimer, 321 N. Clark St., Suite 2800, Chicago, IL 60610-4764. Visitation Sunday, April 29th, 3 to 9 p.m., at Dreschler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 South Marion Street, Oak Park, IL (708-383-3191). Pre-Mass Prayers will be shared Monday, April 30th, at 9:30 a.m. leading to a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., at St. Giles Church, 1045 Columbian Ave., Oak Park, IL. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, IL.

My belated condolences to the Bare and McDonnell families for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

I remember Linda as among the kindest of my classmates at Our Lady of Mercy Grammar School. Although I haven`t spoken with her since, her passing saddens me.

May God bless and keep her family safe until you meet again.

Jim, My heart is with you and the children. We were in each others weddings and shared the joy of our unities. I am saddened I was not there to support you in the departure. I will truely miss making Linda repeat everything she said because she talked so fast for us Texans. My deepest sympathy also to the McDonnell family as I know the closeness she had with them all.

To Jim and the Bare children, I am so, so sorry to learn of the lose of your loved one. It has been many, many years since I met Linda, but I was impressed by her winning smile and outgoing personality. Even though you know she rests in the arms of our Lord, I know she will be sorely missed. Her sister, Peggy, and I have been friends for many years. May God bless you and your family. Sincerely, Elaine Hansen

We may not have known you, but we have been touched by your life.
The story of your being a mother, a friend, and a beautiful wife.

You are the reason we are committed to walk all these miles.
Instead of teardrops and heartache, we read of your smiles.

Know your life will not be forgetten, for we will endure...
We’ll be walking in your memory, until there’s a cure!

JUGS (“Jen’s Ultimate Girl Support”) will be walking the Y-Me Race to Empower on Mother's Day and the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in honor of Linda and the loved ones she left behind.

Jim, I am so sorry to hear about your wife. I know you, and your children will miss her terribly, but I am sure that she will be looking out for you; I believe that is what people you love do even after they are gone. Just remember, I am here for you if you need anything; you were a great friend to me all through high school, and I would like to repay you for that. I am so glad that you found the perfect woman to love, remember all the good times all of you had, it will make things a bit easier. The memories of your life together will help you through everything.

To Lindas Family,
I didn't know you, but wish I would have. Patty Moran let me know of your your circumstances, which drew me to write.
Linda, rest in peace, and always know that your children have a loving family to surrond them, including the memory of you.
I have heard a lot about you, and I wish I could have seen your smile. I can only guess what you meant, here on earth.
You will be in heaven, with golden wings, always looking down, upon your family and friends.
Love, Mary

To all of Linda's family:
I haven't seen or talked to Linda in many years and I wish that I could tell her that she was a part of my life that I will never forget....When I think back to a Florida trip that she tagged along on...all I can remember is how happy she was to come with the older girls. She was a happy go- lucky person and we certainly need those kind of people on earth. She is in heaven now with her Mom and together they will watch over all of you always. We all will miss her. Please take care. If you need anything...call...

To Jim and children, to Theresa and Rob, to Bernadette, Anne Marie and Margeret Mary, Linda was truly an inspiration to not only all of you, but to so many friends and acquaintances through her life. She always had a smile on her face whenever I saw her and she was a true friend, sister, mother, aunt and wife to you all. I know you will be needing many prayers in the days to come and please know that I am praying for each one of you as you grieve through this loss. Please be strong for each other as I am sure Linda would want that from you. I will be especially praying for the children, as you must all rise to fill those incredible shoes. I am sitting here in Italy, confounded, taken by this tragedy. I want so much to be with all of you. I can't believe Linda is gone. I just spoke to her a few weeks ago. She was so happy to hear from me. She was asking questions, showing so much concern for me, Tyler, and Adva. She was telling me how she was going to Florida to get some sun. It was a good conversation, and it made me smile. I just knew I would see Linda again. I was wrong. She was called to a higher power, and she answered his call. I am heartbroken, and I will miss her very much. Just know that Linda is a hero. She always stood by her loved ones and never gave up. Linda has taught me many things, but most of all how to live, because Linda clearly did. I will always cherish our memories together and relive them with Jim and her legacy, Kailyn, Kevin, and Jack. The last time I saw Linda was last August. She walked down to my house to say good-bye. She cried, we kissed and hugged, but I couldn't say goodbye. I said, "I'll see you again." AND I WILL.
Love, Bryan

Linda was a very special aunt to me, and her memory will be with me always. After all the people have gone and after the dust settles, I will be there for Jim, Kailyn, Kevin, & Jack. I will be there for the long haul. I will miss all the parties, the special martinis she made, all the barbeques, sitting on her deck in the summer time. Linda would like us to continue these things, and we will for Jim, Kailyn, Kevin, and Jack will continue be a big part of my life. I love you all.
Love, your nephew Christopher

To Jim, Kailyn, Kevin and Jack and all the McDonnell and Bare families we send our deepest sympathy. Linda was my first cousin and visited us in Ireland many times we always had great fun. She was a year younger than me - it is such a tragedy to lose somebody so young with so much to live for. I have 2 children myself so I can only imagine the heartbreak for the family. I have thought about Linda many times when she was ill and wondered how she was doing. We are thinking of you all at this very sad time and hope you find the strength to get through the next few difficult days and months ahead. All our love Angela, Martin, Eadaoin and Martin Jnr.

Although, I never knew Linda or her family, reading her obituary has only made me see what a strong and great woman she was. Sounds like She lived her life every day as if it were her last. Unfortunately, God has chosen her to be with him now. For her family, my deepest sympathy goes out to you. And know that she is in a much happier and safer place now, where she if suffering no more pain. And one day you will all be together as a family again. Until then, know that she lived for you. Please take care of each other in this time of sadness. God Bless all of you.
