In a few weeks, it will be the 2 year anniversary of Leon Shlofrock's passing.
I'd forgotten he was had left this world. To me he was still alive.
Though he wasn't a blood relative, he was part of my family. And I can only hope I was a part of his.
I thought about him last night, and it hit like a ton bricks all over again.
Though I never told him, he was like a grandfather to me, and I loved him dearly. He was a kind, generous and loving man, and his death took away a part of me that I never realised he had. He left a whole in the world. Though he was plagued with an illness that could not be cured, he still lived life as though nothing were wrong and made everyone around him smile.
To his family I send my deepest condolences, I know exactly how you feel. It is indeed a great loss.
He was a force of nature. And an amazing person.
His memory will live on in our hearts forever.
Your stories and your presence will forever be missed.

Rest In Peace Granddad. I love you.

I first met Leon in 1988 while working for him in one of his Peoria facilities. We worked together for eight years, during which we had many wonderful talks. He offered me my first job as an Nursing Home Administrator, a position I still hold 20 years later. I am greatful everday for the opportunity he gave me.
Leon was a man of wisdom, strength, determination and respect. He contributed so much to the field of Long-term Care, and to the care of the Mentally Ill. He will be greatly missed.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his son John, other members of his family and all who knew him.

I am so saddened by the news of Leon's passing. There are so many of us now adult baseball players whose lives were graced by Leon. When we see eachother, Leon is always discussed as the example of how we want to be in our adult lives, caring for others without conditions as Leon did for us!
He will forever remain a big part of all of our hearts.

My heart goes out to all of us who knew and loved Leon. My father,
Joe Magit, became a friend and associate of Leon many years ago.
When I heard of Leon’s passing, I saw a picture in my mind.
It was my Dad and Leon sitting together engaged in an animated conversation. This seems perfectly natural to me, because they have a lot of catching up to do. Now that they are together, I know that my Dad is happier because his best friend is with him once more. Heaven is crowded with their friends and associates, and I can just see the meetings going on. Leon is probably planning a new way to organize heaven.
We all owe so much to Leon for his service to the country and his service to the people.
What more can a human being ask for than to make a real difference in this world-and he did. He was a man for all seasons and a wonderful asset to our world.
For those who have been left behind to continue their work, remember-they will be watching over you and smiling down as they proudly observe the lessons they so
carefully taught carried on.
The last few days the heavens have opened up and cried for our loss of this special man-sometimes a hurricane in his own right.
I pray that Jean, Mike, John, Elisa and their families will find some comfort in the fact that he is now at peace-freed of the illnesses that plagued him for so many years.
Leon will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Love and Blessings,
Carol and Jeff Ross and Family

I feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to know Leon as a baseball player and later as a friend. He had a tremendous impact on all of us that played on his baseball teams. He was a kind man that was always there for his family and friends. Rest peacefully my friend.

I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy over Leon's passing. I know he struggled with his illness for a long time, but was ever-vigilent about the needs of his business, industry and family. Even when we disagreed, he was never disagreeable - a true gentleman. I will miss him. My prayers are with you.
