Leland Robinson Obituary

Leland H. Robinson Jr. 63, went to be with the Lord Monday April 24, 2006 at 6:40 pm. He died at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City from complications secondary to recently diagnosed cancer. Leland was born on December 1, 1942 to parents Grace and Leland H. Robinson, Sr. in McKinney, Texas. Leland grew up on a farm in Plano, TX leaving to join the Air Force where he spent 2 years serving overseas in Japan. Leland attended college in Texas, and it was in Dallas where he met his future wife Leah Sue Koortz. They married in 1969 and had two children Tammy and Leland Robinson III. They were happily married for thirty-three years only being separated by the untimely death of Leah in 2002. Leland was a man devoted to his family, church, business, and community, which lead him to his many successes. Leland's family and the Lord were most important in his life. He spent many years as a Sunday school teacher to all ages, church deacon, and was one of the founders of Surrey Hills Baptist Church. He dedicated much of his time and resources to local charities both civic and church related. Leland was a devoted follower of Christ and chose to lead others by example. Leland was a successful business owner and a leader in the insurance industry serving a term as President of the National Association of Life Underwriters. He served on many boards and organizations too numerous to name but was very proud in his role as a Mason. His parents and wife Leah Sue Koortz precede him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Lynn Robinson Emmert and her husband Christopher Emmert of Kansas City, and his son Dr. Leland H. Robinson III and his wife, Jennifer Leigh Willard Robinson of Kansas City, his sisters Rebecca Robinson Morris and her husband Jessie Morris of Plano, Texas, Mary Lestell Robinson of Plano, Texas, Jane Robinson Rhodes and her husband Kevin Rhodes of Plano, Texas, Margaret Robinson Sutton and her husband Mark Sutton of Washington Grove, Maryland, sister-in-laws Marsha Koortz Kahan and her husband Dr. Barry Kahan of Houston, Texas, Jan Koortz Lyons and her husband Gary Lyons of The Woodlands, Texas, Debby Koortz DeRosa (deceased) and her surviving husband Carl De Rosa, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and extended family and Church family. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM April 27, 2006 at Surrey Hills Baptist Church with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

It is difficult to imagine losing Leland Howell at this early age. It was also most difficult losing Donnie and Kyle at such young ages. I remember LH from the time he was in the CYF group sponsored by Don and I at the Plano First Christian Church and then periodically over the years. My prayer is that he is with God and will meet with Don, Donnie and Kyle up there. May He comfort you as he is comforting me.

I was so sad to hear about Leland passing away, and even more so because I missed his funeral. He was a great person who influenced many by the way he handled people and situations, and was a favorite tenant at Union Plaza. From a fellow Texan at heart...

Leland was a good man. I knew him from his service to the Insurance industry. He was always kind, considerate and courtious. My condolences to his family.
