Lawrence Hooper Obituary

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. and GRANVILLE * Lawrence Charles Hooper, 68, passed away at the Life Care Center of Winter Haven in Winter Haven, Fla.. on Sunday, May 6, 2007, following a short illness.

Larry was born on Feb. 4, 1939, in Granville, the son of Walter Glenn and Alma (Osborne) Hooper.

He joined his father and brother in the family construction business, Hooper Construction, following high school. He was a carpenter for many years helping build such local landmarks as St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in West Pawlet,Vt., Camp Hebron, in Hebron, the Whitehall Methodist Church as well as most of the Mobil Gas stations in the northeast. Larry started his own business, Thermal Acoustics in Rutland, Vt. Prior to his retirement he had worked for the Vermont Department of Labor. For the past several years he and Pat lived in Florida.

Larry was a past member of the Penryhn Hose Co. in Middle Granville and served in the Army Reserves. He was a past Master of the Granville Lodge No. 55 F & AM, a former member and past Patron of Sylvan Star Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star #122 and a past District Grand Lecturer of the Warren-Washington District Order of the Eastern Star in 1978.

In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by an infant daughter, Holly Hooper and his second wife, Thelma (Warren) Hooper.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia (McKinney) Hooper of Winter Haven, Fla.; three daughters: Mary King and her husband, Charles, of Granville, Lisa Merritt and her husband, David, and Lori Wooten and her husband, Buck, all of Hampstead, N.H., and two stepsons, Robert Loughan and Lawrence Loughan, both of Washington. Also surviving is a sister, Evelyn Hammond of New Hampshire, and a brother, Carl 'Bud' Hooper of Ashville, N.C. In addition Larry is survived by five grandchildren: Robert King of Granville, Alexandra Merritt, Ethan Merritt, Paige Wooten and Luke Wooten, all of Hampstead, N.H.

A funeral service will be held Friday, May 18, at 10 a.m. at Mettowee Cemetery in Granville, with the Rev. Robert Flower officiating.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at Robert M. King Funeral Home, (which Larry also helped build) 23 Church St. Granville.
