LaVern 'Bergie' C. Bergerson

November 4, 1927 - July 4, 2012

SILVERTON - LaVern "Bergie" C. Bergerson passed away at his favorite spot; his cabin at Lake Billy Chinook, on the 4th of July 2012. Bergie was born in Castlewood, SD on November 4, 1927, delivered by his grandmother. He was a member of the Greatest Generation, serving his country during WWII in the Navy as a Control Tower Operator. He was involved in the Boy Scouts of America, being honored with The Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service. One of his proudest accomplishments as a Scout Master was having 12 scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout in one year. Over the years he visited the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico twice and in 1971 led a trip the 13th World Scout Jamboree in Japan. He was a charter member of the Silver "T" Antique Car Club, with many years of parades and community activities. In addition, he was a member of the The Elks and a Freemason, having numerous achievements over the years. He was known for his COLORFUL dry wit and sense of humor, and had too many mischievous stories to mention.

Survivors include beloved wife of 62 years, Arlene; his son Rick Bergerson (wife Lorraine); daughter Shelly Aljets (husband Joe); sister Kay Scott of Redmond, Oregon; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 9a.m. to 8p.m. Fri., July 13th at Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 14th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Silverton.
