Dear John, Helen and Mauer Family:
I was truly shocked and saddened to hear of the loss of Laurie. I was only sorry that I didn't hear of it so that I could have attended the service. She was a first class lady. One memory I will share with you. When I applied for employment at Rand McNally, she was the second person to interview with me, and during the interview she told me a joke, and I wasn't sure that I should respond to it or not, so I took a chance and responded and laughed and joked along with her, and she told me I was hired and that I would fit in fine with the co-workers at Rand. I will never forget her for giving me the opportunity to meet her, work with her and others who loved her, including John. John, you are a strong man and we hold you in our prayers as well. Remember the memories that you had with her. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
I will always remember her smiling face and professional being.

Dear Helen, Pat & Nancy,
I was so saddened by the news of Laurie's passing. It seems like only yesterday she was putting on my makeup for some play or enjoying a softball game with church. I will not be able to stop in on Saturday as I have to be out of town, but please know my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Fondly,
Leslie (Todd) Kiesel

Marla and I wish to convey our saddest condolences to Mrs. Helen Mauer, and of course our dearest friends, Patricia and Ray Erdman on Laurie's passing. Also our deepest condolences to Nancy and Phil, and of course, Mr. John Gruze.
I saw Laurie only a few of times after Pat and Ray's wedding in 1981. Whenever I would ask Ray how Pat's family is, he would tell me how happy Laurie was with John, and I was so happy for her, but never a mention of any health problems, so hearing about this was quite a shock to us. A beautiful lady inside and out as all the Mauer girls are, she was just a wonderful person who will certainly be missed by all.
Sincerely, Aron and Marla.
