Larissa Akinremi Obituary

Akinremi, Larissa Kim Johnson

Larissa Kim Johnson Akinremi passed away on Monday June 14, 2021. She was the eldest child of Allen M. Johnson Sr. and the late Bobbie J. Johnson.

She spent her early years in Hyde Park where she attended several public schools that included Shoesmith, Louis Wirth and Kenwood Academy High School.

After HS, she briefly attended college at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff on a music scholarship. She would later find her path back to Chicago where she began her lifelong career of Human Resources and administration services for multiple companies and organizations throughout the years.

Larissa had many diverse interests and talents. She was an artist, historian, activist and mentor to many youth. She was constantly in service to others, expressing her endless love through her music, dancing, laughter and fun. She continued the legacy work of her mother by planning numerous Juneteenth celebrations. She also collaborated on projects with the historic Rosenwald Housing development. She later developed her hobbies of writing stories, filmmaking and photography. She was recently selected in the University of Chicago's Logan Center Digital Storyteller Institute for emerging filmmakers. She was particularly passionate about Chicago's art and music scene.

Above all, Larissa treasured her family. She was preceded in death by her mother Bobbie Johnson, RN. She is survived by her beloved spouse and best friend, Gideon Akinremi and son, Sondai Adjei of Bronx, New York; Her siblings, Allen (Melanie), Rafael, Tasha (Charlotte), Erskine, Zaid (Brittany), Mumina, Raheem, Bahiyyah, Husnaah, Rahmaah, Bushrah and Mubarak; many nieces, great nieces and nephews, and other relatives and a collection of numerous loving friends.

A celebration of Larissa's life is tentatively planned for late September, with more details to come.

Met Larissa when we resided at Lake Village East in Chicago while she attended Kenwood Academy. She my brother's daughter visited from NJ they bonded fantastically and she would express much concern when she didn't hear from me. She was intelligent, intuitive and verbose. As a teenager, I couldn't have predicted her passionate involvement with the Arts.
May God grant her kind admittance to The Kingdom.
