Kevin McCann Obituary

My deepest sympathy to the Kevin's Family and Friends. I unfortunately just found out about this tragedy. I wish I could have offered my condolences sooner. I knew Kevin for a short time, our friendship had just started when we met at the Hartford School of Insurance in April. He was an incredible friend in the short time I knew him and I will miss him dearly.

I am so sorry for your loss. Kevin was such an outstanding person, and it's incredible how many lives he touched. Please know that you are in my thoughts and my prayers, and my heart goes out to your family.

When we heard the news about your Kevin, we were horrified and wanted to send our warmest thoughts and prayers to your family.

Dennis, you were so very kind to the Milano family over the years. Nick, Dan, Sarah, Meg and Chris were all at Maine South. We hold you in our hearts.

Life is not fair. We will never understand.

I was so sad and shocked to hear about the loss of Brett & Kevin. I just wanted you to know that you are in my prayers and thoughts.

I attended Maine South from 1999 to 2004, and had Mr McCann as a counsler for my first year there. Though I did not know Kevin personally, I did know his father and I cannot think of a better person; I cannot imagine Kevin was any less of a wonderful person than his father. I am truly sorry for your loss and I know no words could ever lessen the pain of losing a loved one, especially a child.

I had the honor of attending the wake and the funneral of your, as you put it Jane, "your beautiful boy Kevin". I had to write to you and say what a great feeling it had to give to you, Jane and you Dennis, to know that your son touched so many lives in such a short 23 years of life. But it was also a tribute to the two of you, because it was you that molded him into such a wonderful man.

It is a hard time now but as they say, time heals, and it does, but you will always have him in your heart and in your memories

There are no words to console you in this terrible hour of the loss of your child and his friend. There is no answer to the why such a tragedy has touched your lives. I have read the testimonies to your son and his friend and it would have been an honor to have known them. I would like you to know that although we do not know your family, we grieve for you and we pray for you that God will give you peace and begin to heal your lives and your broken hearts. I am so sorry for the trauma this has brought to the lives of their friends who were present on that day. My heart is heavy for all of you and I am deeply saddened that such a thing could happen in our community. I believe the world has lost two wonderful young men who made a positive difference in the world we live in. Their legacys will continue through you and all who knew them. God love you and keep you close to him in your grief. The sun does not shine as bright today nor is the sky as blue but you will find that your memories will help to clear the gloom as you see the faces of the lives that Kevin and Bret have touched. A former colleague at Notre Dame High School informed me of your tremendous loss. I'm so sorry to hear that you are going through such a difficult time. Kevin was in my math class at NDHS, and I remember his spirit. I enjoyed seeing him around campus and seeing him bring a smile to others. He truly was a DON. I went to Saint Monicas from 6-7 grade and then Maine South from freshman to senior year (c/o 2000) Although I did not know Kevin persaonally when I went to Monicas or South I did have you, Mr. McCann as my counselor all 4 years in HS. I am honored to say I had known Kevin since grammar school at St. Monica back in the day. Kevin was one of those kids who could light up a room with his smile and laugh. With him sitting next to you in a class, there was never a dull moment! His sense of humor was second to none. He was so extremely talented in every aspect that it seemed there was no obstacle he could not overcome. He was a star athlete with the brains to back it up. Kevin McCann will never be forgotten. I am not sure if you are even going to read this but I want to say that I am so sorry for a loss that has no explanation. I did not know Kevin but I knew who Terry was from the boys he hung around with from ND. I rember Terry as being a respectful boy who always had a smile when you seen him and this is what I understand that Kevin was. I have no words to say as know one can take the pain away. I believe that Kevin is in a place that he deserves to be in and that is Heaven. He lived and died with his best friend. So at least there is no worry that he is alone. When my dad died (as it was an accident) I never thaught that I would be able to live but in a mysterous way we do. I think that it is because God helps you get through it. This is when faith does help and talking to Kevin will. I know that he will not be able to answer back but I know that he is listening.

I live down the street where Kevin was laid out and I passed by there yesterday and saw the long line of people that loved Kevin waiting to say their good-byes. Our son, Brian was on the same Team Illinois, USA with Kevin and Brett when they toured Australia in 1997. They had previously known each other as friendly rivals in grammar school and high school, but became fast friends when they competed in Australia. The last time I saw Kevin was 17 years ago when we were in first grade together at St. Monica’s. My family moved away in December of 1987, and while I didn’t stay in touch with any classmates, I still remember a few names and faces. One of them, of course, is your Kevin, and how could I forget him? While I don’t recall any conversation, I can still picture him as 6 years old, with a big, happy smile on his face. I was not at all surprised to hear what a fine young man he became, and what wonderful things he accomplished in his short life. It sounds like he gave and received more love in his 23 years than many do in a life five times as long. For that, I am very thankful.

I do not know what to say with a loss as tragic as this. I knew Terry from friends and I can not imagine loosing a sibiling especially that were so close to eachother. When I lost my father tragically people say that it gets easier and the only way that it does is by living on the memory. Talk about Kevin and all that he has done for the family. This will help him feel present to you and help you get threw the next couple years that lye ahead. It is ok to cry as it shows how you feel.

I do not know you nor did I know your son. I work with with one of Ms. McCann's workout buddies. I heard about the accident on the news and at that time my heart went out to your family. Anyway, when my co-worker called in today she told me that you were one of her friends. I just wanted to let you know how deeply sorry I am about your loss and that I'm thinking about both you and your family during this hard time.

I am terribly sorry for your tragic loss. Nothing can take away from the pain and suffering your family is going through, but I hope it helps to know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of so many people.
