Kaye and I met in the mid-1960s when I became the Food Editor of the Chicago Sun-Times, and her husband, Robert C. Marsh was Music Critic. We connected through our love of classical music and gourmet food, and remained friends.
Kaye and I became closer friends the past 10 years; my family invited her to holiday gatherings. We enjoyed Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve at my brother Steve's and his wife Ruby's home, and she loved my Aunt Mary and her family--we spent several Christmases with them. Everyone loved her. Each summer, we had several swimming sessions in my pool.
Kaye was a best friend, who always showed compassion when someone was ill or less fortunate, and listened when someone had a problem.
I was impressed with Kaye"s intelligence--she knew a lot about classical music, flowers, food and much more. She was spiritual, loving, polite and very caring; she was a beautiful person! She was most generous, especially to her friends and family -- always
going that extra mile to assist someone, even when it meant inconveniencing herself. She called herself "the catalog queen" and she found the most thoughtful gifts for friends.
She had a delightful sense of humor, a great smile and loved sending jokes and cartoons, particularly those with a political theme. Kaye was a woman of class and grace--even in illness... a genuine best friend and I miss her very much.
She would ask me to give her a ring when I got back after driving her home--she felt better knowing I was safe. Last week Kaye sent a sign,
--one ring--she is fine.
My heartfelt condolences to her great family.

My sympathy to all members of Kaye's family. I will try to be at St James Cathedral Friday morning.
