Memories of My Grandma by Susan Osacky
Katherine Osacky , My Grandma
Grandma had frequent dreams of dancing with Grandpa Tony.
Grandma liked pancakes, macaroons, and toyacaksa.
Grandma was interested in her grandchildren’s success and employment.
Grandma loved to cook dinner and spend evenings in the company of Uncle Tom.
Grandma said her prayers every night.
Grandma liked to play Bunko.
Grandma had a glass dog named Sandy in her living room.
Grandma said if we rubbed her Budda’s belly that we’d have good luck and our wishes would come true.
Grandma had 2 green plastic cups in her cabinet that the twins have been drinking milk from for years.
Grandma had a plain red kitchen phone for a real long time.
Grandma liked her condo but wished Grandpa was there longer to enjoy it.
Grandma appreciated everything Uncle Tom did for her on a day-to-day basis.
Grandma finds humor at serious times. Grandma, and the twins were at the hospital the Friday before Easter. The nurses suggested putting a tube in Grandma’s nose to feed her. Grandma waited ‘til the nurses left the room. Then Grandma said “Ya know what the nurses can do with the tube? They can shove it up their you know what!”. And then Grandma started laughing really hard. She also had a very happy moment at Palos Hospital . I remember her smiling ear-to-ear when she introduced her cute physical trainer to Terese and they were talking about Terese getting a job there.
Grandma always tried to keep my dad warm by buying him hats, gloves, etc for holiday presents.
Grandma told us how lucky we are to have such a wonderful mother and father.
Grandma used to ask us about our mom’s family a lot.
Grandma had beautiful long nails. When Terese and I were younger, we’d pick the nail tips up off the floor that Grandma had clipped off her hands, and we’d ask her to glue them on our hands, so that we’d have long pretty nails too.
Grandma always wanted to make sure that her guests weren’t hungry.
Grandma liked to shop at Kmart.
Grandma liked to wear slippers. She always stepped on the back of them.
Grandma ran into our family with Grandpa Tony one summer in Arizona at a park. We weren’t supposed to meet up with them ‘til the next day. I said to them “Grandpa, what are you doing on my vacation?”.
Grandma liked to drink tea.
Grandma wanted to buy a home with Tommy.
Grandma liked pierogi’s, polish sausage, and lambie cake.
Grandma liked little cute animals like kittens and bunny rabbits.
Grandma always emphasized the importance of God and faith to us.
Grandma used to tell us stories of her life when she was young, and about my dad as a child.
Grandma taught her grandchildren to always respect their parents, to treat others kindly, to be successful, to stand tall and be proud of their height, to have faith in the Lord, and to carry on her values.
Grandma was a very strong woman mentally and emotionally. She was always well spoken and persistent. Grandma loves her family very much.
Grandma is my role model. I want to be as much like her as I can.
Grandma is in heaven now with God. She is watching over all of us.
I’m glad she always expressed her feelings to us because I feel as if nothing was left unsaid. Grandma is dancing with Grandpa now. She is as happy as can be, and we will all see her when we meet again in heaven.
