Dear Fred,

We just got back in town and heard the sad news. We are so very sorry to hear of Katie's passing. Katie always was tough on the outside, but she was a sucker for every animal and so many lost souls, both animal and human. One of our favorite memories is the picture of her in the hall at your house when she was probably about 12 years old and trucking down the path. She looked so totally invincible, and nothing was going to stop her. That's pretty much the life she led and certainly how we will remember her. We were so very grateful for her warmth and hospitality every time you invited us to your house. You took very good care of her, and we hope you will take good care of yourself now.
