JOSEPHINE VISCANA Obituary



Kerhonkson, NY

Josephine Viscana of Kerhonkson, NY died Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Kingston City Hospital. She was 92 years old.

She was born on April 13, 1918 in Barberton, OH. As an infant, Josephine's family moved to Astoria where she was raised by her mom, Nicolette and her stepfather, Emanuel Loiacono.

She had worked as a Seamstress for Craig's Creations in Manhattan and specialized in making curtains and bedspreads.

Josephine married Anthony Giambruno in 1936. They began a family and raised three boys: Salvatore, Joseph and Emanuel. Mr. Giambruno died in 1955.

After her boys had grown, Josephine remarried and she and her husband, Philip Viscana eventually settled in Kerhonkson. Philip died in 1983.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and was a member of the St. Mary and St. Andrew's choir. She loved singing, knitting and crocheting, and most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and great-granddaughters.

In addition to her sons: Salvatore and Joseph Giambruno of Kerhonkson and Emanuel Giambruno and his wife, Carol of Jackson Heights, Josephine is survived by her granddaughters, Kim Gialouris and Barbara-Ann Wislowski and her great-granddaughters: Markella, Emily Paige and Amanda Grace. Also surviving are many close nieces and nephews.

Josephine was predeceased by her birth father, Joseph Cascione; her brothers: Dominick, Vito and Martin; and her sisters: Angelina, Anna, Catherine and Antoinette.

Visiting will be held Saturday, June 19, and Sunday, June 20, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 21, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Kerhonkson. Burial will follow at Pine Bush Cemetery.
