Joseph W. Werner, age 66, late of Mokena, IL. Beloved husband of Patricia Werner for 40 years. Loving father of Amanda Rose (Andrew) Sloan. Proud grandpa of Delilah Rose Sloan. Dear brother of Steven, Christine (Tom) Nugent, and Marylou Hickey. Caring uncle of many nieces and nephews. Joe was a friend of many and will be dearly missed. Preceded in death by his parents William J. and Florence E. Werner.

Affectionately known as "Mayor Joe"; He served residents of Mokena for 12 years as an elected Village Trustee and later as their Village Mayor. He is a proud small business owner of 40 years, Werner Nugent Plumbing. Because Joe was committed to service, he developed a 501c(3) non-profit organization known by many as "Veterans Garage", which is a Veterans and Patriots organization that is dedicated to the restoration, preservation, maintenance and display of Historic Military Vehicles and Equipment.

Visitation for Mayor Joe will be held Friday, January 5, 2024, 3:00-8:00 PM at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 19604 Wolf Road, Mokena, IL. Funeral Chapel Service will commence Saturday, January 6, 2024, 10:00 AM in the Funeral Home Stateroom. Procession to follow to Good Shepherd Cemetery

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Lou and Jean Malnati Brain Tumor Institute of the Lurie Cancer Center at Northwestern Hospital. Joe's Neuro team, especially Dr. Stupp, played a pivotal role in supporting Joe in his battle against Brain Cancer.
