Had his first job as a paperboy, delivering newspapers to the neighborhood. He was a man dedicated to Service of others with 22 years in the Air Force. First half as security forces protecting missiles, deployed to remote areas such as Alaska and Korea. Second half of his careers as a service trainer manager encouraging everyone to better themselves while active duty. He was Stationed in the Philippines where he meet his wife of 53 years. Retired out of Clovis New Mexico where he retuned to Chicago Illinois but not to rest. He continuously fought for veterans rights working with disabled vets where he distinguished himself earning multiple awards for his dedication. He started at the American Legion for 15 years, then directly with the Veterans Administration for 10 years changing the system within, and finally with the State of Illinois.

His loyalty was to his family. Tradition and customs were embedded in everyday life. His commitment to honor, integrity and service above self inspired all his kids. 5 of the 7 kids joined the Air Force and Army. 2 with State jobs and 1 with a Federal job. Joseph couldn't have been more Proud.

He was a Proud Grandfather with no favorites. Loved cheering on his grandkids Cameron in hockey, PJ in baseball and Lilyana in Lacrosse. Jessica walking in her Grandpas boots as she joined the Navy going to the same school in San Antonio for Security Forces Training. Telling stories of Alaska to Angelina and Isabelle. Would take them all to Icecream Friday escapes. Always ensured he had stocked jar of cookies on the table and fruit in the fridge.

Retired in Abilene TX, where he adopted his Cowboy persona. Boots, 6 shooter, chaps and Cowboy Hat. Went shooting on occasion to keep up his aim and just enjoy life. Reading westerners was his guilty pleasure. It was always a challenge to find him a book he didn't already read. Services entrusted to North's Funeral Home. I had the opportunity to know Joe while working as the Outreach Coordinator at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. He helped out a lot of Vets I referred to him when he worked for the American Legion and IDVA. Joe was one of the best Veterans Service Officers I ever met. His dedication in helping Veterans and their families was particularly noteworthy.
My condolences to the Petrosky family.
RIP Joe!

I am so sorry to hear about Joe, I worked with him at the American Legion, or many, many years. My prayers are with the family at this time. He was a great guy and will be missed.
