Joseph Pastore Obituary

Pastore, Joseph Passed away suddenly on July 24, 2017 at 63 years old. Joe was the eldest son of Yolanda "Cookie" Prestigiacomo and Frank Pastore, although Joe was raised by Bernard "Bernie" Prestigiacomo since age nine. Joe was a ball of lightening, sparks flying in all directions, a force that barreled through boundaries, teeming with joy, laughter, intelligence, and a zest for life that made Zorba the Greek look like a depressive. Joe will be remembered for his infectious laugh and sense of humor. When Joe told stories, it was HIS laugh that cracked up the rest of us. He was blessed with many friends who were drawn to his warmth, humor, and sense of reason and fairness. Joe attended Argo High School where he played sports and was a lifelong, voracious reader. After graduation, he bought a chainsaw and headed to Colorado to be a lumberjack. Two weeks later he returned with a beard and a dulled chainsaw. He then went to work for the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad, walking the tracks of Chicago in rain, snow, and sunshine. Joe married Pauline Culligan in 1982 and together they created three beautiful children, Ashley, Chloe and Michael who will remain the apples of his eye, the loves of his life, and a sustaining source of pride and fulfillment. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Teri; brother, Sal; ex-wife, Pauline; chatty cousin, JoAnn; nieces, Jessica and Alexis; Auntie Annie, and siblings, Michael, Carmen, Nina, and Mark. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 29th at the Wayside Chapel (12700 Southwest Highway, Palos Park) followed by a reception at 5:00 p.m. at Jenny's Steakhouse (11041 Menard Ave., Chicago Ridge). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Open Books Chicago www.open-books.org.

I am honored to be a part of the Argo family with the IHB Railroad. And most of all, blessed to have known Joe in such a tight knit crew. Joe was one of many of the "forefathers" of Argo. Never a dull moment when Joe walked into a room. He left an imprint not just in my life but EVERY crew and employee, EVERY brother and sister at the IHB. His memory will be carried on. I'll miss you brotha.
