Maratto, Joseph M. 64, current police officer with Chicago Aviation Police, retired lieutenant 41 years C.P.D. and Army veteran. Beloved husband of Kathy (nee Mayfield); loving father of Dan; dear brother of Michael Maratto, Concetta "Cookie" (the late Richard) Giancarlo, Eleanor "Sugar" (the late Ed) Colby and Salvatore "Jockey" Maratto; brother-in-law of Joan (the late Edward) Rolek and Ken Mayfield; also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe was a good husband, father and police officer. I hired Joe to be a hearing officer for administrative adjudication (P tickets) at the Riverside Police Department because he was honest, fair and impartial. Anyone who worked with Joe thought the world of him. RIP brother Joe.

I'm saddened to hear of Joe's passing. Please accept my condolences. I met Joe when I was in 151 and he came to 021 as a new lieutenant shortly after I went there as a new sergeant. The world and the Department was a better place with Joe around. I'm honored to have known him and I will miss him.

Joe was a good man. We were Sgts. together in Major Accidents in the early 90's. I remember him always talking about taking Dan to McDonald's on Saturday mornings. He always treasured doing that. We'll keep him in our prayers.

I worked with Joe at CPD when I was in Personnel and he was a Sgt. in the Bureau of Operations. He was such a wonderful man. Always a smile on his face. I was fortunate enough to reconnect with him after many years when he came to work at the Dept. of Aviation after he retired from CPD and he still had that wonderful personality and smile. Joe was one of the best PO's that ever worked for me and one of the finest Sergeants I ever worked with. I retired about the time Joe made Lieut/Inspector, but I have a feeling he was viewed as one of the best in that capacity too. An example of what the CPD can be. I'll always remember him as an Inspector , who when he was in 014 , he would respond to in-progress calls, and be side to side with the PO'S, and after that he would stick around and talk, joke with you as a person.I always introduced him to my PPO'S, and when he walked into the station , everyone including myself would be glad to say hello to him.
