Joe's Eulogy 03/09/05
Good Afternoon.
I am humbled and honored to speak here today as we come together to celebrate the life of Joseph Lepore. Joe…a friend, a cousin, an uncle, a brother and a son.
I’m sure all of us are hoping, as I am, that this is all a bad dream and we will wake up, look over, and see Joe with that warm smile. We were all touched by Joe and his smile and that is why we are here with him today. We want to enjoy that one last moment with him and keep his memory warm in our hearts.
As I sat in the funeral parlor yesterday, the sweet smell of flowers wafted through the air I was in awe as friend after friend, family member after family member came to see Joe one last time. They shared story after story memory after memory and laugh after laugh. I was able to spend some time with some of Joe’s friends and hear some of the Joe stories. Now let me explain that some of Joe’s friends go back quite a few years, some of these friendships are over 34 years old. The only way to maintain a friendship over that length of time is quite simply by being a true friend. I know Joe appreciated everyone’s company; he always enjoyed having people around and never missed a family gathering. A special thanks to the pallbearers some of Joe’s oldest and closest friends.
You see Joe was a giver, he gave and never asked for anything in return. Whether he was taking care of his family or helping a friend, you could always count on Joe.
We all have great memories of Joe that will live on and on. Mike (cousin) you would talk to Joe twice a day and share stories and family updates. Al (cousin) you went out with Joe the night before his surgery. You were able to share one last crazy night with Joe and I’m sure that night will stay with you forever. I had the great fortune of speaking with Joe one last time while he was in the hospital. It is a moment in my life that I will not forget. We must keep those memories alive for Joe.
To his friends next time you get together raise a glass to Joe.
Joe truly was, is and always will be a friend, a cousin, an uncle, a brother and a son. Joe was a strong, beautiful and caring person. And anyone who had the good fortune of sharing a part of Joe’s life was truly blessed. He was truly loved.
He went into the hospital wanting to start a new chapter in his life. Now he will be going forward and starting a new chapter in his new life. His new life where we will all be together again. He just got there a little early.
God bless you Joe.
