Joseph Britton Obituary

Joseph T. Britton, age 80, of Winchester, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in the Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Britton was born on March 14, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late William and Lenora McGovern Britton. He was a fireman for the Philadelphia Fire Department, retiring in 1970 after 28 years of service. He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Prep School, Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Britton was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army.

His wife, Yolanda Britton preceded him in death in 1996.

Surviving are four sons, Richard Britton of Philadelphia, Pa, John Britton of Jenkintown, PA, Lawrence Britton of Altoona, PA, and Steven Britton of Wildwood, NJ; two daughters, Peg Lafferty of Wildwood, NJ and Rosemary Wiedman of Winchester, VA; eighteen grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son, Joseph Britton, Jr. in 2002.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Chesapeake Bay Road, Bear, Delaware.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 2123, P.O. Box 1894, Winchester, VA 22604.

Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral, Amherst Chapel.
