Joseph Berk Obituary

Berk, Joseph G. 92, widower of Jeanette Silverman Berk, died November 9, 2013 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Sarah Berk; his brother, Leonard Berk; his sister-in-law, Esther Silverman Levun, and her husband, Henry Levun. A native of Chicago, he loved the city and the lake. Together with his father and brother they owned and operated a successful tire, truck parts and industrial supply company, Washington Rubber Company, located on the west and later the south sides of Chicago. An avid golfer and sailor, he built a sail boat, and with his wife enjoyed many hours in it on the lake. He attended Northwestern University and then served during World War II with the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army in the Pacific. He is survived by his children, Harold R. Berk, Esq. and his wife, Joan, Dr. Mitchell L. Berk and his wife, Connie, and Dr. Barbara L. Berk. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Mira Berk Solomon, her husband Daniel; his great-granddaughter, Emma and sister-in-law, Dora Berk. Funeral service Thursday 11:00 a.m. at Weinstein Funeral Home,111 Skokie Blvd., Wilmette. Interment Atereth Zion of Jewish Waldheim Cemetery.
