Johnnie Vaughn Obituary

Vaughn, Johnnie Q. Edwards Johnnie Q. Edwards Vaughn went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 1, 2013. Johnnie was the eighth child born to the union of James Wesley Edwards and Laura Freeman Edwards. Born and raised in Sherrill, Arkansas, Johnnie married Alfred E. Vaughn, Jr., of Marvell, Arkansas (who preceded her in death in 2007) in 1958, and they moved to Chicago in 1960. She earned her Masters of Arts degree in Special Education in 1981 and served as an educator in the Chicago school system until her retirement in 2000. Johnnie's tireless devotion to God and the study of his Word lead her to devote her time and energy to many ministries. She became an ordained minister in 1996. Her trademark wearing of "all white" symbolized her devotion to God and the love of his word. Johnnie leaves to cherish her memory her eight children, Sharon, Anthony, Alfreda, Lekeda, Donica, Camille, Alfred, III, and Patricia; fifteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Others left to cherish her memory are brothers-in-law, Adolphe (Lucille) Vaughn, Sr., and Thomas "Butch" (Corliss) Vaughn; sisters-in-law, Minnie M. Jordan and Alfreda O. (Noah) Robinson, all of Chicago, Illinois and other family, friends, and members of the Edwards, Freeman and Vaughn families.

This very special lady will be missed tremendously. Johnnie always brought extra words of wisdom and knowledge to our Sunday school class at Monee Free Methodist. She is one of the most loving souls we have ever met. Johnnie is with her Savior Jesus now, and will always be in our hearts. Our family will miss you Johnnie.

I was so surprised to read of Johnnie's passing. She attended our church many times. (Monee Free Methodist) Her devotion and love for God was always encouraging. She will be truly missed, but we will see each other again.

To the family and friends of our sister in Christ, Johnnie Vaughn.

Johnnie came to our modest church in Monee, IL during my pastorate there.

She always came to worship and listen to the Word of God in her white signature outfit and almost every Sunday would offer encouragement and a kind word to myself and our "first lady", my wife Sheila.

We are very grateful to God for orchestrating our short but rich time with our friend and fellow disciple Johnnie.

To her family, please accept our condolences and may God provide you comfort.

Pastor Mike and Sheila.

Goodbye our beloved friend, mentor and prayer partner. Know that we from the Monee Free Methodist Church loved her dearly. her presence was both a blessing to us and to her. Know God was using her in this corner of the world. Bless you who had the privilege to know her and share in her passion for The Lord!
