JOHN PETERSEN Obituary

Petersen, Reverend John P. 88, of Evanston, passed away May 9, 2015. Born in Oak Park, IL in 1926, he was ordained a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 1951. Rev. Petersen received his degree of Master of Divinity, cum laude, from Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago at the Maywood campus. He served as pastor of the Church of the Ascension in Chicago from 1951-1955 and was the first pastor of Our Saviour's Church in Arlington Heights from 1955-1964. In 1966, he received the degree of Master of Social Work from University of Illinois and retired in 1992 as vice president for corporate affairs of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois. Beloved husband of the late Margaret; loving father of David (Susan) Petersen and Rebecca (Gregory) Greenway; proud grandfather of John and Matthew Petersen, Julia, David, Laura and James Greenway; fond brother of David Petersen; brother-in-law of Helen Borows; dear friend of Charles Meschler. Visitation Thursday, May 14 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Rd. (just south of Lake Ave. on west side), Glenview. Visitation Friday, May 15 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3637 Golf Rd., Evanston. Interment Memory Gardens, Arlington Heights.
