To the Pankow family. It was with great sorrow to read today on the Lyons F.O.P. web site your great loss. Even as I child growing up in Lyons John always treated me with respect. Yes, even when I didn't deserve it. That has never been forgotten and neither will John. Our thoughts and prayers be with you all. Mark Muto & family.

John was truly one of my favorites.
He got me to join the Lyons dive team and then the fire department. He was my mentor and good friend. If not for John, I would have never dicovered the fire service. I owe my career to him.
John was the first person to refer to me as a brother in the sense of being a brother fire fighter. I have truly lost a brother with his passing.
I will miss him and think of him often.
