John McCarley Obituary

John W. McCarleyJohn W. McCarley, 79, of Dalton, formerly of Rome, passed away early Monday morning, Dec. 15, 2008, at a Chattanooga hospital.Mr. McCarley was born in Cherokee County, Alabama, on April 29, 1929, the son of the late William P. McCarley and Elva Kisor McCarley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita McCarley, on July 7, 2003, two sisters, Tevis Wayland and Lorine Hennon, and a grandson.Mr. McCarley received a pin for 50 years with Georgia Power and served as an instructor at Plant Bowen. He was a union representative for the IBEW and also worked in management at Burlington Mills. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. His philosophy of life was “to love everyone as God loves you.”Survivors include his wife, Sandra MacFadden McCarley; daughters, Sherryl (Rick) Foster, Tennessee, Susan Gegg, South Carolina, and Lynn Steele, Dahlonega; stepchildren, Mac MacFadden, Dalton, Mitzi Hennessee, Eton, David and Tammy Manly, Dalton, and Shea Bingham, Dalton; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one sister, Annie Swann, Rome; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, James Daniel, Rome.Services are Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Thomas B. Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Dempsey, the Rev. J. W. Bowen, Ernest Ham and James Daniel officiating. Burial will be in the Floyd Memory Gardens.Pallbearers will be Howard Clark, Jimmy Worley, Butch Wayland, Richard Wayland, Scotty Kerr, Josh Steele, Jason Foster and John Stroupe.The family will receive friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Thursday from noon until 2 p.m.Those wishing may send memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, Box 225, 3 Central Plaza, Rome, GA 30161 or the Ronald McDonald House, 200 Central Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37403.Daniel’s Funeral Home, Thomas B.
