John Hingste Obituary

John Ernest Hingste

John Ernest Hingste passed away on September 7, 2007, at the age of 89.

John was born on February 14, 1918, in Hoboken, New Jersey. He graduated from high school in Union City, N.J. In 1941, John married Anne von Oehsen, and started a family. During World War II, he was in the Air Force, stationed in Colorado. After being discharged, he returned to New Jersey where he worked for Esso Oil Co. (later Exxon Oil Co.) as a truck driver. In 1968, he married Dorothy Clement. That same year, he was Truck Driver of the Year for the Sate of New Jersey, after extinguishing a fire at Exxon's oil and refining facilities.

In 1978, John retired from Exxon and moved to Ruch, Ore. He loved fishing, enjoyed working outdoors, and cutting his own firewood, until he was in his early 80's. A trip to Reno, the Indian Casino or the Jacksonville Tavern to play the poker machines was his idea of a good time.

After a stroke in 2002, John moved to a foster home in Medford. His wife, Dorothy Hingste passed away in 2003.

He is survived by a daughter, Diane Hawk, of Piercy, Calif.; son, John C. Hingste; stepson, Douglas Devine of Jacksonville; stepdaughter, Dorenda Sullivan of Ocala, Fla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

There will be no services. His ashes will be scattered during a family gathering.
