John Florian Gronkowski
89, lifelong Canaryville resident and St. Gabriel parishioner, passed away February 18, 2024. Beloved son of the late John and late Helen Gronkowski (nee Iglinski); devoted husband of 63 years to Eileen (nee Bell); loving father of Kathleen (Ed) Kerrigan and Maureen (Gary) Steffenhagen; cherished grandfather of Sarah (Perry) Papadopoulos, Katie (James) Kistner, Allison Steffenhagen, Briana (Eric) Pulia, and Gary Steffenhagen and great-grandfather of Sophia and Georgie Papadopoulos and Teresa and Emilia Pulia; dearest brother of the late Andrew (late Clara) Gronkowski, late Florence (late Charles Gatz) (late Chester "Smokey") Jaguszewski, late Edward (Thomasine) Gronkowski, late Angeline Gronkowski, late Joseph "Lefty Joe" Gronkowski, and late Marcella (late Earl) Morrissey; fond brother-in-law of late Mary (late Jack) Hermle, late Thomas Bell, late Dennis (late Nancy) Bell, late Joseph (Bunny) Bell, late Samuel Bell, and late Kevin Bell; also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, and cousins, and best friends Rich Houlihan and the late Ron "Snooky" Niego.
John was a proud United States Army Veteran, retired Stationary Engineer for CPS for over 36 years, and member of the CVA.
Visitation at McInerney Central Chapel, 4635 S. Wallace Street, Chicago, IL 60609 on Thursday, February 22, 2024 3-8 pm. Funeral Friday, February 23, 2024 10 am at funeral home, to St. Gabriel Church for a 11 am Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
