John Beretta Obituary

Beretta O.S.A., Rev. John W. age 83, died July 20, 2003, after a short illness, loving son of the late Leo and Andrea (nee Van Hagen) Beretta, dear brother of Hans (Brenda) Beretta, Kathleen Beretta and Lieselotte Schroeder (Peter), all of London, Ontario; of Pieta Van Heck (Bart), of the Netherlands; of Frederica Van Brock, of Temple City, CA; of Gerard (Sabine) Beretta, of Belgium; of the late Henny (Vlasman), Ien (Mulder) and Alex Beretta (Joanne) and fond uncle of many. A native of Den Haag, the Netherlands, professed vows as an Augustinian, September 1, 1940. Ordained a Priest May 26, 1945. Taught in the Netherlands, and then at St. Rita High School, Chicago, and Tolentine College, Olympia Fields. In 1973 became the first Director of Tolentine Center, Olympia Fields, created when Tolentine College closed. Did pioneering ministry in strengthening marriages while working in the Office of Family Life of the Diocese of Hamilton, Ontario. Was retired at Our Lady of Grace Community at Marian Village, Homer Glen, at the time of his death. Visitation Thursday, July 24th, from 3 to 6:45 p.m., followed by funeral Mass at 7 p.m., at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church, 16043 S. Bell Rd., Homer Glen. Interment Friday, July 25th, 10 a.m., at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th St., Alsip.
