Joanella Fayert Obituary

Sister M. Joanella Fayert, SSC Teacher, Principal, General Superior, Director of Mission, Sister M. Joanella Fayert, SSC, 88, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Casimir for 68 years, died July 22, 2013 after a long illness. Sister Joanella, a native of Shenandoah, PA, served as an elementary school teacher at Our Lady of Vilna School and Providence of God School in Chicago, Director of Mission at Holy Cross Hospital, and Congregational Leadership at the SSC Motherhouse in Chicago, including General Superior from 1978 until 1988. Sister Joanella initiated the Cause for the Beatification of Venerable Mother Maria Kaupas. Sister Joanella is survived by her nieces, Louise Morgan, Julie Davis, and Betty Gunsenhouser; and her nephew, Matthew Tierney. Her parents, George and Mary Fayert; sisters, Julia Gillis, Helen Jessick, and Mary Tierney; brothers, Joseph Fayert and Edmund Fayert; and niece, Helen Gillis, preceded her in death. Visitation at the Sisters of St. Casimir Motherhouse, 2601 W. Marquette Road, Chicago, Friday, July 26, 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by Vespers. Mass of Resurrection, Saturday, July 27, 9:30 a.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel. Interment, St. Casimir Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SSC Retirement Fund.
