Joan Rochford Obituary

Rochford, Joan Age 89, of Chicago, formerly of Naples, Florida. Loving daughter of George T. and Ernestine Hogue Rochford, predeceased; cherished sister of the late Mary Jane McCarthy and Patricia Reagan; fond sister-in-law to David H. McCarthy, Jr., Edward J. Kelly, and Richard Reagan, predeceased; adoring aunt of David (Patty) McCarthy, George (Kathy) McCarthy, Katie (John) Cushing, Michael McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy, Ed (LuAnn) Kelly, Madeleine Kelly Lubar (David), Grace (Jim) Adair, George (Beth) Kelly, Jim (Julie Kelly); devoted great-aunt of many nieces and nephews, two of whom, the late Brian Adair and Joe Lubar, are preparing a warm welcome for A.J. in heaven; dearest cousin to many Rochford and Hogue descendants. Joanie or A.J. (for Aunt Joanie) is fondly remembered by many in Naples, Florida for her many years of volunteer work with the elderly and handicapped. She worked closely with Meals-on-Wheels for over 25 years. Joanie was an avid tennis player and runner and participated in numerous marathons in Florida plus one in Dublin, Ireland when she was 75. Her career path included selling theater tickets in Chicago, teaching 1st through 3rd grades in the Chicago Public Schools, and retail sales in the furrier department at Neiman Marcus which allowed her to express her real passion and flair for fashion. With a fun loving outgoing personality, love of singing and sense of humor she enjoyed acting in public theater while living in Mexico for 5 years and Naples, Florida for 25 years. A.J.'s deep religious faith and spiritual devotion defined her person and set a shining example for all who knew her. Visitation Saturday, March 4, 2017, 10:15 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 1775 Grove Street, at Church Street, Glenview, Illinois 60025.
