Joan Delaney Obituary

Joan, I think of you often -- especially when I dive into my jewelry boxes! Just last Friday night, I came down Lake Shore Drive and stopped at the light, across the street from where you lived. Every time I see the building, I think of you.

I guess your feet don't hurt you anymore -- wish I could say the same thing! Give 'em "hell" up there -- just like you always did for us!

Joan, I know you are resting in perfect peace. Job well done!

Joan lived her life to the fullest and shared her joy for living with everyone. She touched all of us in her own unique way and each one of us is better for having known her.

Joan was plain delightful. I so enjoyed our conversations which 100% of the time ended with me walking away beaming with laughter. Such a down to earth human being who will be sorely missed. She possessed such depth, presence, and was just a joy. My prayers go out to the family.

Dear Phil, Linda, Mara and Ali: We have such fond memories of driving Joan home after the Holiday dinners, over the years. She would enthrall us with stories from her past, so much, that we would take the long way home. We knew it was going to be an especially juicy story, when she would start with, "Don't ever tell my son, but...", lol. She certainly danced to the beat of her own drummer and lived her life on her terms. In many ways, she was ahead of her time. She was such a warm and interesting woman we will truly miss her at S&F. I will keep Joan and your family in my prayers at this most difficult time.

What a wonderful delightful character Joan was. I would run into her at street festivals, often on her way to hear a favorite band. She was so good humored about the "menu" for the attorney luncheons and always asked for a review of her choices. We were blessed to have known and worked with her. She will be missed.

Joan was the best and I am crushed to have lost her! She dragged me around to street fests, bars, theatres, restaurants - and it didn't matter if it was the coldest day of the year, she was up for it!! I will always remember how vital, clever and fun she was, and so committed to living life to the fullest.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers as I know you have suffered a great loss.

I so admired Joan for her fiercely independent spirit, her quick wit, and her unflagging joy of life. She regaled us with endlessly entertaining stories of the Chicago music scene, going back decades. Her hearty laughter, good humor, and kind heart will be sorely missed.

I have fond memories of Joan being the first person I would see in the morning in coming to the office. She had a great work ethic and always a smile on her face and a warm greeting. I often would be the first one in, but sometimes she would beat me and we would always chat when I would swing by to "steal" the morning newspaper (and return it some of the time after reading it!). The last conversation I had with Joan, she told me how much she loved the rum cake I baked for her birthday celebration at Shefsky & Froelich. She was a wonderfully cranky woman and she knew it. My prayers are with you and your family.

I'll miss you Joan. Our shared trips to the store in search of some funky piece of jewelry. I will think of you often when I wear all the jewelry we picked out together.
