Very sad to hear this. I knew Jim in his CFL days and spent some time with him in and out of the station. What a decent guy! It was from him that I learned of the workings of top 40 radio during that period of time. I then made a career move to Atlanta, but from that distance could only keep up with his moves to NBC and eventually to his own record store. Most of this information came from a former Atlanta radio personality.
For any of those who had an opportunity to know Jim, I am sure his passing represents a valued relationship lost.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Jim was a very special person and I feel fortunate I had the chance to know him in the time I worked at his store 20 years ago. He really left an impression with me -- just a few days ago something triggered up a memory of "Merch, Inc." and one of his daughters fussed about how (then) young PJ was parroting back merchandising tips he was learning from Jim. I never unloaded my vinyl, and a lot came from Jim's stores in the 80's. You are all in my prayers to get through these difficult times and treasure your memories of a great man.

I used to always go to WCFL Studios and watch Jim Stagg. Jim was the one who motivated me to want a career in radio.
I will always remember his beautiful professional radio style.
As far as I am concerned he was the best DJ CFL ever had.

I listened to Jim's show on WCFL faithfully. My teenage deams came true when I won WCFL'S "Beatle Memory Trip". Jim accompanied my Mom and I the entire trip. He was our chaperone, tour guide, mentor, entertainor and friend. Jim's patience, kindness, good nature, enthusiasm and fun-loving spirit made it a wonderful experience, not just for this Beatle-crazed teenager, but for Mom as well. We will always treasure the memories thanks to this very special man. My heart goes out to Jim's entire family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Jim Stagg. He was a joy to listen to, as like Art Roberts, no screaming or yelling. A legendary DJ of the golden era of top 40 radio.

Valene,
You know my heart and prayer goes out to you, Lisa, Dina, Kara & Patrick. Jim was indeed a very special person and certainly I was a huge fan of his long before we became neighbors. I'll never forget his deep resonant voice and wonderful personality. Jim was always a gentleman and all round great guy. We're all gonna miss him.

I was privileged to first meet Jim Stagg through my friends Mike King and Dick Biondi at WCFL. During the years my Starbeat's "What's Happening" was heard over the Big 10, I got to know Jim better. He always had a special passion and enthusiasm for music and radio. I know Jim is making one last trip up the Sound Ten Stairway.
To family and friends I want to express my deepest sympathy. Only time can soothe the pain of such a great loss, but fond memories can never be lost only cherished.

Jim gave me my first record store job at Record City. I have a lot of happy memories of working for him and his family, and with all the amazing people who made that store so great.

Aunt Valene, I send all my love and deepest sympathy to you during this time of great loss. You and Uncle Jim have given me the most wonderful memories of how Christmas should be celebrated. I think of you both especially around the holidays because of the fun I had caroling and spending time with family at your home. I love to reminisce with my own kids about these wonderful memories you both have given me. I love you and will keep you in my prayers!
In sympathy, Anne Aulisio

My deepest sympathies to the Stagg family. While I never met Jim, he was in large part responsible for my desire to enter broadcasting as a career. I remember hearing him on WCFL and saying to myself, " I want to be like that guy". It is really amazing when you key the mic, the influence that one can have. As I am writing this I recall his words when he introduced the Beatles at a concert in Chicago, "you've been very patient waiting, you don't have to wait anymore, here are The Beatles". Again, my deepest sympathies.

Having shared the WCFL mike with Jim put me in a position to see him as he really was. What you heard coming thru the radio speaker as a listener was the real deal! A kind and a caring man who was the consumate professional.I'm proud to say I worked with him.

As
a teenager,I listened to Jim when he was on WCFL, and later on, had the
honor of working with him at WMAQ.He was a great radio professional,
and one of the broadcasters I aspired to be like. His daily sign-off
was- "Music is my business- I hope my business is your pleasure." The
pleasure was all ours. My sympathy to his family , friends, and many
fans.

Take the special memories that you have and embrace them. This is what will help get you through the hard times to come. Thoughts of good times and funny mishaps will make you laugh and remember what a good life he had.
